Network Engineer
Evaluates, designs, and maintains local area networks (LANs), data networks, and
telecommunications systems both internally as well as for clients. Troubleshoots
LAN, data and voice network problems. Performs network engineering for client and
internal networks and executes ongoing network equipment maintenance and management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the core infrastructure for the Co-Location network of DirectPointe
- Formulate policies and procedures that will make the DirectPointe networks and DirectPointe's
customer networks secure
- Participate in the effort for DirectPointe towards compliance with ISO 17799, COBIT
and other security standards as defined and selected by DirectPointe management
- Responsible for the ongoing maintenance, management, and performance of the Monitoring
system
- Provide direct support to DirectPointe's Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III engineers
for network, firewall, and VPN issues while working with the resources to train
them to be as self-sufficient as possible
- Create and provide training for DirectPointe staff for the configuration and management
of DirectPointe and its customer's routers, firewalls, switches, and wireless access
points
- Define and refine network audit package for DirectPointe
- Perform and train others to perform network audits for DirectPointe customers
- Participate in the performance of quarterly network security audit on DirectPointe's
internal networks
- Assist in the creation and refinement of best-of-breed managed firewall and router
solutions for DirectPointe
- Responsible for the services performed within a managed firewall and router solution
- Provide sales support to DirectPointe Sales Personnel
- Review Network architecture in Sales Proposals
- Provide customer network design services
- Serve on the DirectPointe on-call Rotationv
- Create Knowledge Base articles in order for NOC personnel to be self-supportive
in Router and Firewall tasks as deemed appropriate by the Security Policies of DirectPointe
and definition of other's duties
- Support new client and renewal client installations when requested
- Perform Quality Control functions on all deployed DirectPointe and Customer network
devices
- Provide quality documentation on DirectPointe and customer's networks
- Maintain a network Configuration Management process for DirectPointe and it's Customers
- Design, implement and manage a test lab environment for DirectPointe to test new
product offerings and/or services
- Design and implement a training lab environment for DirectPointe to facilitate other
DirectPointe employees self-sufficiency
Qualifications
- Excellent TCP/IP understanding
- Strong Cisco configuration, maintenance and management skills
- Strong Check Point technical skills specifically for Check Point on Nokia appliances
- Intermediate SonicWALL skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be comfortable presenting
to technical audience.
- Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills required.
- Excellent Customer Service, analytical and organizational skills required.
- Ability to overcome obstacles to obtain results under tight deadlines.
- Ability and initiative to undertake individual projects as well as work in a team
environment.
- Time management and prioritization skills.
- Must thrive in fast-paced, start-up environment.
Education and/or Experience
Two to four years of network engineering and administration experience preferred.
Computer Skills
Strong knowledge of telecommunications and computer network systems. Strong knowledge
of computer LAN systems and telecommunications systems. Strong knowledge of PC's,
servers, routers and various software applications.
Language Skills
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Cisco, Check Point and/or SonicWALL a plus.
